Disgraced Maui Police Chief John Pelletier in DUI Cover-up Allegations

Maui Police Chief John Pelletier is under fire for alleged DUI-related misconduct after being involved in a car crash near his home, raising questions about a cover-up.

Disgraced Maui Police Chief John Pelletier was reportedly involved in a car accident near his Wailuku residence on Sunday afternoon around 5 P.M. According to the Maui News, despite Pelletier claiming he had no injuries from the incident, independent journalist Jeni, known for her investigative work under "Connect the Dots with Jeni," uncovered alarming details suggesting a potential DUI cover-up.

Pelletier, currently embroiled in a lawsuit linking him to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs—a controversial figure facing federal trial on sex trafficking allegations—has a history of misconduct during his tenure as Chief, which includes accusations of harassment towards fellow officers.

Reports from Jeni’s sources indicate that Pelletier had allegedly been drinking with fellow officers when he drove his vehicle into a ditch. Upon the arrival of a patrol officer to administer a breathalyzer test, other officers allegedly intervened, urging against the test. A tow truck was subsequently called to remove the vehicle from the ditch.

Jeni reported that Pelletier displayed an unwillingness to take responsibility, attempting to shift blame for the crash to external factors. “He argued about a supposed recall on his truck and claimed issues with his brakes, even though a black box extracted from his vehicle indicated that it was a case of 100% acceleration. This raises serious questions about the decision to drive while intoxicated, especially for someone in a position of authority,” she asserted.

Amid these troubling developments, Maui's Mayor, Richard Bissen, has previously suggested that Pelletier should be placed on administrative leave pending a thorough investigation, an option that Pelletier has resisted despite similar precedents in addressing police misconduct. Recent discussions within the Maui Police Commission have also revealed broader concerns about corruption aimed at both Pelletier and the commission itself, with critics alleging that the commission has consistently shielded Pelletier from accountability despite numerous complaints and lawsuits against him.
