The U.S. has accepted a gifted Boeing 747 from Qatar for the Air Force One fleet, raising constitutional concerns and controversy among supporters of former President Trump.

The U.S. government has officially accepted a Boeing 747 from Qatar intended to join the Air Force One fleet. Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced on Wednesday that Secretary of Defense has sanctioned the acceptance of the aircraft, asserting compliance with all federal regulations. However, the move has stirred significant backlash, even among Trump's staunchest supporters.

This aircraft, valued at approximately $400 million, is a luxurious gift from the Qatari royal family, which will undergo extensive modifications and upgrades before it can function as the presidential aircraft. The White House claims that although the gift is substantial, it falls within legal parameters, a sentiment that has ignited debate since its announcement last week.

Former President Trump addressed the controversial transfer, stating it would be "stupid" to decline such a gift, claiming it benefits the U.S. defense department and not himself personally. He argued that the aircraft will ultimately be donated to his future presidential library once his term concludes. Yet, critics point to the Emoluments Clause in the U.S. Constitution, which restricts public officials from accepting gifts from foreign entities without Congressional consent.
