The fire erupted around 03:27 local time, ensnaring 234 guests during a peak holiday season, forcing many to attempt escape through windows using linens as makeshift ropes.

The inferno burned for nearly 12 hours before emergency services could extinguish it, despite their arrival being delayed by the hotel’s remote location and harsh winter conditions. Bolu's governor, Abdulaziz Aydin, indicated that the fire is believed to have started in the restaurant area on the fourth floor and quickly spread, leading to a mass evacuation that proved tragic for many.

Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu reported that 51 people sustained injuries, with at least one in intensive care and several others successfully treated and released. An investigation is underway, prompting the arrest of nine individuals—including the hotel owner—as authorities address allegations of insufficient adherence to safety regulations.

The heartbreaking stories include tragic loss, with Turkish Airlines confirming that a family of five—Zehra Gültekin, her husband Bilal, and their three children—succumbed to the flames, along with other family members.
