Rapper Tory Lanez Hospitalized Following Stabbing Incident in California Prison
Tory Lanez, the Canadian hip-hop artist, was stabbed while serving time for his conviction related to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
Rapper Tory Lanez, known legally as Daystar Peterson, was hospitalized after being attacked by another inmate in a California prison on Tuesday morning, according to state corrections officials. The incident occurred in a housing unit at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, situated approximately 75 miles (120km) north of Los Angeles.
Pedro Calderón Michel from the California Department of Corrections reported that prison staff swiftly activated emergency services and began providing medical aid before Lanez, 31, was transported to a nearby medical facility for further treatment. While no specific details on Lanez's condition were released, initial reports suggest his injuries are non-life threatening. An investigation into the stabbing is currently underway, although Calderón Michel did not disclose any information regarding the motive behind the attack.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for his conviction over the shooting of fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion. This incident took place at a party in 2020, where Lanez shot Megan Pete as tensions flared following an argument about their previous sexual interaction and professional disputes. In her testimony, Megan revealed that she demanded to be released from the vehicle they were in, prompting Lanez to shoot at the ground while issuing a chilling command for her to "dance." She suffered serious injuries requiring surgery to remove bullet fragments from her foot.
Despite being sentenced in 2023 for three felony gun-related charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm, Lanez has maintained his innocence and declined to apologize for the shooting incident. The case created deep divisions within the hip-hop community, leading some artists such as 50 Cent and Iggy Azalea to publicly support Lanez during his trial. Prior to his incarceration, Lanez achieved significant popularity with seven top 10 albums in the U.S. over the past seven years and has hinted at the release of a new album titled "Peterson" while still in prison.
