In April, Tesla encountered a substantial decline in vehicle registrations within Germany and the U.K., marking the lowest sales figures seen in over two years, despite an overall increase in electric vehicle demand in Europe.

Tesla's Sales Plummet in Europe Amidst Rising Competition and Political Backlash
Tesla's registrations shrink significantly as competition intensifies and political sentiments shift in Europe.
The electric vehicle manufacturer experienced a striking decrease of nearly 46% in Germany and an alarming 62% in the U.K. compared to the same month last year, according to newly released industry data. This trend wasn’t limited to the two primary markets, as similar decreases were noted across other European nations. Sweden reported an overwhelming 80% drop in new Tesla registrations, while France saw a downturn exceeding 59%.
Numerous experts attribute this slump partly to the delayed deliveries of Tesla's refreshed Model Y, which have yet to hit the European market in substantial numbers. However, deeper issues seem to be influencing this trend, notably the adverse effects stemming from the political climate. Much of the discontent is directed towards Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, whose overt support for far-right political movements in the U.S. has sparked backlash among European consumers.
Matthias Schmidt, an analyst from Schmidt Automotive Research, remarked, "The European April data signals that this is more than just a temporary dip related to model modifications; Tesla's challenges in Europe appear to stem from deeper-rooted concerns related to Mr. Musk’s political affiliations."
