Sean 'Diddy' Combs Maintains Innocence Amidst New Allegations
Rap mogul faces serious accusations in federal court while denying all charges.
Sean "Diddy" Combs has officially pleaded not guilty to a newly amended indictment that introduces significant allegations of forced labor. The revised indictment contends that the music mogul coerced employees into working extensive hours under threats of physical and reputational consequences. It also alleges that he compelled at least one employee to participate in sexual acts against their will.
Combs’ legal team has strongly refuted these claims, asserting that there has never been any coercion in his personal relationships, which they argue were consensual. Attorney Marc Agnifilo emphasized that Combs is eager to clear his name in court, stating, "He has never forced anyone to engage in sexual acts against their will."
The music producer, known for his significant influence in the rap industry, is preparing to confront a federal case concerning sex trafficking and racketeering. The new allegations are part of the ongoing racketeering charges. In addition, Combs faces numerous civil lawsuits claiming rape and assault, which his lawyers have characterized as opportunistic attempts to gain publicity.
During a court appearance in New York's southern district federal court, Combs appeared in a greenish-tan prison jumpsuit, displaying visible signs of stress, including grey hair and a beard. He chose to stand while entering his not guilty plea, confirming to the judge that he had read the indictment. Family members, including his son Christian and daughter Chance, provided visible support from the audience, alongside his mother and friends.
The courtroom proceedings also featured extensive discussions surrounding a controversial video released by CNN, allegedly depicting Combs kicking his former girlfriend, Cassandra Ventura, in a hotel hallway in 2016. Combs’ attorneys contended that the video is misleading and accused prosecutors of misrepresenting evidence, asserting that critical sections were manipulated. However, prosecutors maintain that the footage will serve as essential evidence in their case.
Following the video's release, Combs publicly apologized for his conduct, expressing remorse for his actions. As the legal battle intensifies, the judge announced that jury selection is set to commence on May 5, with opening statements expected on May 12. Combs is preparing for a pivotal moment in his career as he faces these severe allegations.
