Israel has warned all residents of Gaza City to leave immediately in anticipation of a huge ground offensive.

The military's Arabic spokesman told as many as one million Palestinians living in Gaza's biggest urban centre to evacuate southwards. Remaining in the area is extremely dangerous, he said.

On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that air strikes destroying high-rise buildings in Gaza City were only the beginning of the main, intensive operation to capture what he described as Hamas's last significant stronghold.

Hamas has condemned these statements, calling it a public demonstration of a fully-fledged crime of forced displacement.

The evacuation directive has drawn international criticism as fears mount over the humanitarian impact of escalating military actions. The UN warned that intensifying operations during declared famine conditions could further drive civilians into chaos.

The IDF’s message, conveyed through leaflets and social media, emphasized the need for immediate evacuation, stating, The IDF is determined to defeat Hamas and will operate in Gaza City with great determination. Israel has approved a plan to conquer all of Gaza following failed ceasefire talks with Hamas, which included discussions on releasing hostages.

As air and ground attacks intensify, reports indicate that while many are moving south, the mass exodus envisioned by the military has not materialized. Civilians face difficult decisions, with logistical barriers and fear prompting hesitation to leave.

The humanitarian situation grows increasingly dire, with UN officials noting that many households struggle to move due to high costs and lack of safe locations. They express concerns that the mass evacuation could amount to forced transfer under international law.

With numerous casualties reported due to starvation conditions as conflicts rage, concerns about the looming famine in Gaza underscore the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and the potential for increased suffering in the wake of military actions.
