Shakira Forced to Cancel Second Concert Due to Stage Issues
Shakira's WorldPride performance in Washington D.C. is off following complications from her Boston concert.
Shakira has canceled her anticipated concert in Washington D.C., stating that complications arising from her previous show in Boston led to the decision. The performance, set to be part of WorldPride—one of the largest LGBTQ+ festivals globally—was officially announced to be off by Nationals Park, the venue for the concert. The statement highlighted that issues concerning the transport of Shakira's complete tour production from Boston has made the event unfeasible.
The singer, known for her hits like "Whenever, Wherever," conveyed her dismay over the situation, saying: "I have been counting the days, excited to be reunited with my fans in both Washington and Boston." She pledged to do everything within her power to return to the stage for her fans soon.
Nationals Park clarified that, despite all efforts, the concert could not proceed as planned and promised automatic refunds for those who purchased tickets. The prior performance in Boston was also abruptly canceled right before Shakira was to perform on May 29, with additional shows by country artists Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn on the following day also called off due to stage safety concerns.
Entertainment company Live Nation stated that "structural elements were identified as not being up to standard" during a pre-show inspection, leading to the decision to cancel the shows. Fans expressed their frustration on social media, noting they traveled from various locations specifically to see the concert.
Others empathized with Shakira, recognizing the unfortunate nature of the situation. The Grammy Award-winning artist is currently on her "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" tour, which promotes her 12th studio album, and is slated to perform in Atlanta next on June 2.
