**Israel Conducts Airstrike on Beirut Amid Ceasefire Tensions**

Israel's recent airstrike on a building in Beirut claimed by Hezbollah raises questions about the fragile ceasefire established months ago.

 

Israel executed an airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Sunday, claiming the target was a facility used by Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militant group. This strike follows an evacuation order for a building purportedly housing "precision-guided missiles," which Israel asserts poses a significant risk to its national security. The attack comes despite a ceasefire that had been in effect for five months, effectively halting hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

Israeli military officials stated that the facility was a "blatant violation" of previous agreements, as it allegedly served as a storage site for missiles that could threaten civilians in Israel. The Iranian-supported group has officially remained compliant with the ceasefire, according to anonymous Western sources, while Israel has conducted numerous airstrikes and drone operations against perceived Hezbollah positions.

The recent attack is particularly notable since it marks the first strike on the Dahieh district in nearly a month. Following the incident, the Lebanese presidency expressed outrage, calling on the U.S. and France—who were instrumental in negotiating the truce—to intervene and prevent further Israeli aggression. "Israel's actions are destabilizing the region and pose real threats to security," the Lebanese administration stated via social media.

In response, Israeli officials reaffirmed their stance on not permitting any increase in Hezbollah's capabilities, making it clear that Dahieh will not be regarded as a safe zone for the group. The United Nations' Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, also condemned the airstrike, warning it could incite renewed violence and urging both parties to uphold the ceasefire.

Earlier this month, another Israeli airstrike in southern Beirut resulted in multiple casualties, including a senior Hezbollah member. The ongoing violence raises concerns about the stability of Lebanon, where communities grapple with the possibility of escalating conflict amidst an already precarious peace process.
