Ridah Bin Saleh al-Yazidi is repatriated after assessment by US Department of Defense.
The US Department of Defense has confirmed that Ridah Bin Saleh al-Yazidi, an inmate at Guantanamo Bay, has been repatriated to his home country of Tunisia. The transfer came after al-Yazidi was deemed eligible following a rigorous interagency review process conducted by US authorities. However, the Pentagon has not disclosed whether al-Yazidi accepted any form of guilt regarding his status as a detainee.
Since its establishment in 2002, the Guantanamo Bay detention facility has housed individuals that the US government classifies as unlawful combatants amid the ongoing "war on terror." This high-security camp is part of a US naval base located in southeastern Cuba.
Currently, the Pentagon reports that 26 detainees remain at Guantanamo Bay, with 14 of these individuals classified as eligible for transfer. In recent developments, there have been other notable resettlements and legal agreements involving detainees, highlighting the continued evolution of the facility's status and the individuals detained there.
